19 Nov 2007 - Match Reports

There were 2 matches in the Birmingham League for Solihull & Shirley badminton club. Defending Champions, the Men's 1st team, played well to beat Bidgley Power 1 5-4 in the 1st division. John Hudson & Tom Whitehouse were in unstoppable form to take all of their rubbers & lead the team to victory. The Ladies' 1st team were unlucky to finish with a 6-0 loss against Central in the 1st division.
In the Solihull League, a young 2nd Men's team were in the mood for revenge as they took on Frankley Bats in Solihull 2nd division, S/S having lost 6:0 in their previous meeting. Matt Dejesus, Tom Love, Qiao Sun and Andrew Wainwright were all cooking with gas, when producing a superb performance as they reversed the score to beat Frankley 6:0 with the loss of only one game. The race to win the 2nd division and gain promotion is now wide open and there for the taking should Solihull and Shirley's juniors continue with their present form. The Ladies' 1st team picked up a valuable 4-2 win against JDRT in the 1st division - their 2nd win of the season. Defending their 1st division title, the Combined 2nd team beat PaJaMaS 5-1 to keep themselves top of the division. Grace Ollivent & Andrew Kitching played well to remain unbeaten at the end of the match. In the 2nd division, the Combined 3rd team also won 5-1 but this time against Knowle 1st team. This time, Captain Derek Sarkar & Di Ollivent came through the match unbeaten.
