
Solihull & Shirley Badminton Club made headlines in Germany after winning an International Tournament in Bad Soden Salmuenster (http://www.fuldaerzeitung.de/sixcms/detail.php?template=fz_meldung_04&id=191346). 140 players from over 30 clubs from Germany, Holland & Belgium took part in the 2 day tournament. Solihull & Shirley won the Sprudel Cup; a 77cm high golden trophy filled with 6 bottles of Champagne after finishing with the highest number of team points. The whole team of Paul Harris, Joe Hulse, Andrew Wainwright, Matt Dejesus, Seb Drury, Charlotte & Denise Kennedy can be very proud of their achievements after great performances all round. The semi-finals of nearly all disciplines were dominated by the English side with Paul & Joe beating Andrew & Matt in the Men's final. Paul won the Mixed with German guest player Sabrina Staats and Charlotte & Matt took 3rd place. Joe became Singles' Champion with Matt picking up the 3rd place again. Solihull & Shirley are looking forward to defending their title next year and special thanks have to be given to team coaches Peter & Hayley Kennedy. It must be remembered that this was a team effort with everyone's performances contributing to the final team tally. 15 year old Andrew, 17 year old Matt & 16 year old Charlotte must be congratulated on their excellent performances in the senior competition. The future of the club certainly looks promising!
