3 Sep 2006 - The Dave Clarke Trophy 2006
19 mixed pairs took part in the 3rd Dave Clarke Mixed Badminton tournament held in Dave's name who sadly past away over 2 years ago. He was regularly playing the Warwickshire County Veterans & for Solihull & Shirley Badminton Club and played right up to a few weeks before his sudden death. He managed to reach the quarter finals of the All England in his hey day & will always been fondly remembered for his great sportsmanship & the knowledge he passed on.
It was a hard fought contest with Joe Hulse & Alison Cookson, both from Solihull & Shirley beating Rob Forrester & Debbie Darkes from the same club, 21-16 in the semi-finals to come through to the final. John Hudson & Diane Ollivent, also from Solihull & Shirley came from 15-10 behind to beat Mike Rattcliffe & Tracy Robbins from Monsoon & Esporta Clubs in Coventry, 21-16. The final was a fantastic epic battle with John & Diane taking the title after beating Joe & Alison 21-20 and having had 6 match points against them.
Thanks must go to all participants who made this such an enjoyable tournament & it is hoped to hold another event at the same time next year.
