3 Apr 2006 - Battledore Cup match report

Solihull & Shirley 1st and 2nd teams were in action against each other in the final of the Solihull Battledore Cup.
S &S top players turned out for the 1st team with a reflected handicap of one serve minus 9 points against the talented but inexperienced juniors playing off plus 8 points.
Imbalanced in playing ability, the handicaps proved spot on with 7 out of the eight rubbers (best of three) all going to three games. The seniors, concerned about costly mistakes had to use all their experience to overcome the carefree game of the juniors whose gameplan was to fight for every point.
After the Men's and Ladies' games the match was split 2-2, with the remaining four mixed games to decide the winners.
The juniors took the lead 3-2 after a dazzling performance by Matt Dejesus and Jessica Hogan. All credit must go to the seniors though for using all their skill and experience to take the other three and win the final 5-3.
