31 Mar 2008 - Match Reports from this week's action
3 Teams for Solihull & Shirley Badminton Club were in action in the Birmingham League. It was a very disappointing end for the Ladies’ & Men’s 2nd teams as they were fighting for survival in the appropriate 2nd divisions. The Ladies’ lost 5-1 to Activ Sports in a match where 3 rubbers finished 21-19 at the end. A few points the other way & it could have almost been a reversed score line. Charlotte Kennedy & Jess Hogan fought hard to pick up the one rubber. It just didn’t seem to go the right way for the Men’s 2nd team either in a 6-3 loss against a depleted Broadway 2nd team. Several leads in some of the games were thrown away and it looks like division 3 badminton for both teams next season.
It was better news for the Mixed 1st team who are still vying for the top spot in the 1st division. John Hudson & Katie Johnson and Andrew Kitching & Alison Cookson finished undefeated to end up with an important 8-1 victory over Four Oaks.
The future looks bright for the club and congratulations must go to Robert Wainwright, Ryan Bland, Ajay & Vinnay Mistry from Solihull & Shirley Junior Club. Robert & Ajay played well to finish gold medal winners in the U13 section of the Solihull Open Junior Competition. Ryan & Vinnay won 3 out of their 4 games in their group, losing 21-19 in their 4th and were very unfortunate not to get through to the knock out stages of the U16 age group. Well done lads!
