Solihull and Shirley Badminton Club - Yonex Performance Centre

IT'S OFFICAL!!! WE HAVE NOW HAD OUR PERFORMANCE CENTRE STATUS ACCEPTED!!!

The aims and objectives of the club are to: -
· Play and promote badminton in Warwickshire
· Offer badminton coaching and competition opportunities to all junior members & adult members
· Provide duty of care and protection to all club members
· Make sure all club members are treated equitably

We are a friendly badminton club based in Solihull and welcome league standard players as well as juniors wishing to improve. We play in both Birmingham & Solihull Leagues and enter the Badminton England Cup. We are proud to be a premier club & are now been confirmed as a Performance Centre by Badminton England.

Performance Centres will play a major role as BADMINTON England strives to be the world's best badminton nation by 2016. 

Solihull & Shirley will receive £10,000 funding a year for three years to help in the identification of raw talent and the development of players, both on and off court, and ultimately aim to produce players capable of medal success.  The Performance Centre programme will help to create an increased pool of talent which will not only underpin, but has the potential to increase and challenge for places on the World Class & Start Potential programmes.

We have recently appointed Mark Sellwood as Head Coach for our performance centre & leading more than 6 qualified Badminton England coaches. Please see www.marksellwood.com for further information about Mark.

We run an elite junior group as well as have club coaching prior to our club nights from 7pm-8pm on Wednesdays at Langley School, Solihull. This season we have 10 teams in the Solihull League and 7 teams in the Birmingham League. We hope to put several teams into new Solihull Singles' & Junior Leagues next season. We have teams in all the first divisions. We are looking for promising juniors who are looking to improve their standard & wish to play more competitively as well as for players of a league standard for the club which runs from 8pm-10:30pm.

It's great to see that the juniors are now taking places in our top teams!
We hope with the development of the performance centre to be promoting more juniors into the County & England cell set-up.

We organised a trip to Germany in August '07 where our team won the Sprudel Cup in Bad Soden-Salmuenster near Fulda. We will be returning at the beginning of August to defend our title.

We often organise friendly matches & recently played against Gloucester All Stars - more details/photos can be found on the news/reports page.

This is one of the many tournaments that the club run. The next Dave Clarke tournament will take place on the 6th September '08 - please contact us if you'd like to take part.
